Terms of Use

Last updated: 24 August 2026

The Woodworking Bench is run by one person, Ruben Arredondo, as a hobby project. These terms are short and plain because the site is small and the arrangement is simple.

By using the site you agree to what follows. If you do not, please do not use it.

Accounts

You need an account only to publish designs, save projects, comment, rate, or follow other members. Everything else works without one.

Keep your login details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

Do not create an account if you are under 13.

An account can be suspended or removed if it is used to break these terms, particularly for uploading content you have no right to share, or for harassment.

What you publish

You keep ownership of everything you upload. Nothing here transfers your copyright.

You grant permission to host your content, display it on the site, serve it to people who download it, and make the copies necessary to run and back up the site. That is the whole grant. It is not sublicensed to anyone else, it is not used to promote anything, and it ends for future use if you remove the content.

When you publish a design you choose a licence, and that choice is a promise to everyone who sees it. Creative Commons licences cannot be withdrawn from someone who has already downloaded under them. Choosing All Rights Reserved means people may view the design on the site but have no permission to redistribute it.

You also declare where the design came from: your own original work, a remix of someone else's, or a reupload with the creator's permission. Please answer honestly. Uploading someone else's plans without permission is the one thing most likely to get content removed and an account closed.

Removing things

You can delete any design you have published, at any time.

Deleting your account is different, and this is worth understanding before you publish. Your account and personal details are removed, but designs you published stay on the site, attributed to “Deleted user.” This is deliberate: other members rate designs, comment on them, and build from them, and those contributions should not disappear because someone else left. Species photos you submitted and that were approved stay up on the same basis.

If you want a design gone, delete the design first, then your account.

Two records survive account deletion regardless: moderation reports you filed, kept without your name attached, and administrative logs of moderation actions. Both are described in the Privacy Policy.

Uploaded files and downloads

Design files are stored with a randomly generated address and served through a route that requires you to be signed in.

The underlying storage is public to anyone who has the exact file address. That address is never shown and cannot realistically be guessed, but a shared link would work without signing in and would keep working after the design was deleted. Do not upload anything you would not want readable by someone who obtained the link.

Downloading a file does not give you rights beyond the licence its author chose.

Reference data and calculators

The species data, movement figures, hardness numbers, and calculators are provided to be useful, and real effort goes into their accuracy. They are not a substitute for your own judgement.

Wood varies. Published shrinkage and hardness figures are averages across samples, not guarantees about the board in your shop. Check your own material, especially for anything structural, load-bearing, or safety-critical. Nothing here is professional engineering advice.

Some species can cause allergic reactions or are toxic in dust or sap form. Where the site notes this, take it seriously; where it does not, absence of a warning is not assurance of safety.

What is not allowed

  • Uploading content you do not have the right to share
  • Harassment, abuse, or targeting other members
  • Scraping the site, automating requests at volume, or trying to circumvent rate limits
  • Attempting to access accounts, files, or data that are not yours
  • Uploading anything malicious

Availability

This is a hobby project run by one person. It may go down, lose features, change, or stop entirely. There is no uptime commitment and no support obligation.

Keep your own copies of anything you care about. Do not rely on the site as the only place your files exist.

Liability

The site is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, no liability is accepted for loss or damage arising from using it, including wasted material, project failures, or lost data.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case those parts do not apply to you.

Changes

These terms may change. The date at the top will be updated. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised version.
